OTEP Frontwoman Among CNN.com's 'People You Should Know'
April 16, 2007As part of the "People You Should Know" special, CNN.com users sent in their nominations for people they'd like to know more about and one such user was James Padgett of Indiana, who stated, "I would like to see a story on Otep Shamaya. She is the lead singer of the band OTEP. She was sexually and emotionally abused as a child and now advocates for kids in that situation. Her lyrics seem to send the message: Get mad, then get help." Other "People You Should Know" nominees include Reverend Dr. Michael Beckwith as well as U2 frontman Bono. Let it be known also that CNN.com chose to feature a photo of Otep rather than that of these gentlemen.
With regards to being appointed of one of CNN.com's "People You Should
Know", Otep Shamaya states, "This is an unexpected honor to be nominated on my favorite news site."

OTEP recently parted ways with guitarist Karma Cheema (ex-AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE). His replacement is a guitarist presently only known by his first name: Aaron.
Otep has rejected persistent rumors that the band has been dropped by Capitol Records as a result of the recently announced merger of Capitol and Virgin Records into the Capitol Music Group.
OTEP's third full-length album, "The Ascension", was previously scheduled for release on March 20. The CD was recorded in New Orleans over the course of several months with Grammy-winning producer Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, MUDVAYNE). A new release date has not yet been announced.
